The Bucha massacre saw the killing and abuse of Ukrainian civilians by the Russian Armed Forces during the fight for and occupation of the Ukrainian city of Bucha. Photographic and video evidence of the massacre emerged on 1 April 2022, after Russian forces had withdrawn from the city. According to the mayor and other local authorities, approximately 1,000 bodies have been recovered from the town, including 31 children. Photo evidence showed corpses of civilians, lined up with their hands bound behind their backs, shot at point-blank range, which proves that summary executions were carried out. An investigation confirmed the use of a basement beneath a campground as a torture chamber. Many bodies were found mutilated and burned, and girls as young as fourteen, as well as young boys and even babies, were raped by Russian soldiers.
